Know today's fast.Correctly, for your parish.

Orthodox fasting calendar · iPhone and iPad

One answer, in food words, for the calendar your own parish keeps.

Not on the App Store yet. Aiming for before the Nativity Fast.

A strict fast day, showing what is allowed and what is set aside
The Askesis home screen

Both calendars

New and old, Greek practice and Slavic. Every Wednesday and Friday marked, on every screen.

Fully offline

Everything is bundled. No account, no sign-in, and no server behind any of it.

Your priest first

The app states the general discipline of the Church. It is not your confessor.

The month grid with every Wednesday and Friday marked, above an agenda of the days

What it answers

Four questions.

  1. 01

    What may I eat today?

The fast level in food words, allowed and abstained in two columns. Not sure about a packet? Scan its label, in eight languages.

  2. 02

When is the next fast day?

A month grid, and an agenda beneath it.

  3. 03

    Whose day is it?

The feast, and the saints of the day named with their year.

  4. 04

What do I pray, and for whom?

Morning and evening, with your commemorations in their place.

Everything is already on the device.

Where it comes from

The correctness is the feature.

Two full years, both calendar styles, computed and compared line by line against the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese for the new calendar and the OCA and ROCOR for the old.

1,460 of 1,460 fixture
days match.

One rule above the rest. Your priest's guidance for you always overrides the app, and the app says so on the way in.

The app as it stands today.

From the current build, so what is unfinished shows as unfinished.

What it does not do yet.

Readings unfinished

39 days carry their appointed passages. On the rest the app says so, rather than showing the wrong ones.

Kitchen is empty

Built and tested, with no recipes in it yet. No recipe count is claimed anywhere.

Labels, not meals

It reads printed ingredient lists. A mode that judged a plate of food was removed rather than shipped.

Shellfish is a note

Permitted even on strict days, so it never turns a verdict red. Wine is not detected at all.

A free week, then today stays free.

Free forever

Today's answer, in full. The fast level, where you stand in the season, the feast and the saints, and the line about your priest.

A correction beats a compliment.

One person builds this. If a day is wrong, send the date, your jurisdiction, and what your own calendar says.
